First and foremost I want to explain myself. I just purchased an electric scooter for my kids, found an excellent kids scooter for a decent price. Finally gave in after about a year and a half.

Compromise electric scooter vs hoverboard 

There were compromises being made, so I don't feel like a total loser. 

Let me explain.

For over a year and a half, my kids have been at me about getting one of these new hoverboards, but I've stayed consistent with it and I didn't budge an inch. I felt a bit sad about their friends having these things and being the "bad dad" to most of the kids I can take, but seeing them unhappy and not letting go of the idea got me thinking. 

What if I could find something else to keep them occupied and so that they could join their friends and ride around whenever they like to. 

So I asked them about what type of ride on toys there were and they came up with a few, mostly go kart, ATV and crazy stuff like that. 

Finding an electric scooter for kids

So I started searching the web of course with the help of my old pal Google. Finally, I came across a great site which had some good points on what to look for in order to find an electric scooter that suits kids. A few minutes after reading through their list of benefits I was on my way to purchasing the first one for my boy, only to uncover that there are like a gazillion scooters to choose from. 

Seriously who makes so many scooters for kids? I mean what we really need is one reliable with a few different speed differences and colors. That would make the choice so much easier, but as always we need to complicate things with different twist-throttle, push-throttle, gas pedal? 

Finally we settle for one with a moderate speed of 10 mph which I think is more than enough for my 11-year-old boy. The little lady of the house got a smaller one in pink, of course, her favorite color. That one did about 5 mph which I think is great and it had a seat, wider standing pad and a push-start which means that she needs to push off before the throttle has any effect.

Do they expect that parents know what all this stuff mean for as simple as a scooter?

I mean if I wouldn't magically have come to this guide I would never have known that there were all these safety precautionary functions which some scooters lacked. Thank god people are so into sharing this stuff, and that google is so good at finding the things we need. 

Leaving you with a question, what would the world look like if google just vanished into thin air and we were back in the early 90's? 

I know my kids wouldn't have had scooters that are for sure!
